Project...Living Room

I have had a vision for our living room since before we bought this house...a beautiful stone fireplace with surrounding cabinetry and bookshelves. Well, this year we decided to make it happen. Late last year, we looked around for some bookshelves that would fill the space on either side of our "to be" fireplace, but they were way too expensive and not the size or look that we wanted. So, on the way home from our Christmas trip in Denver, we decided, or shall I say that I talked Dan into building them from scratch. I think we discovered a hidden talent...and will now have something to do when he retires!

We had no idea where to start, so we went to Home Depot where we picked up our "how to build bookshelves" book. Then over 4 hours later, we had all our plywood cut, trim pieces picked out and car loaded to the rim. Unfortunately, it was a windy night and we had to put the thin backing pieces on the roof, which required us to drive all the way home holding the front part of the plywood so that it wouldn't snap in half. That was the longest drive home!

It's just fabulous...I love it! Thank you Dan...you are so talented!
