Mackenzie Evelyn Calley

She's here! Mackenzie Evelyn Calley, born at 3:20 p.m. yesterday, March 13. She weighed in at 8lbs 14ozs and measured 22 inches long. We are so glad that everything went ok and she was safe and healthy.

We had quite a scare yesterday! Mason had his 4 year check-up on Monday and received 4 shots, which was so sad...my poor little guy. Well, one of the vaccines was for whooping cough. I knew that was one that I needed to get so as not to pass it on to Mackenzie when she was born. So, our pediatrician said that he would be more than happy to give me the shot and it is perfectly fine to get while pregnant. So I thought why not. Well, later that evening I started to feel a little achy like I was coming down with the flu and it only progressed through the night. Then when I awoke that morning to get Mason ready for school, I felt awful and noticed that I had a fever. I also noticed that I wasn't felling the usual strong Mackenzie kicks I always feel every morning. Well, after almost two hours had passed, I called the doctor and they told me to eat or drink something sugary and lay on my left side. If I didn't feel any movement after five minutes, then head to labor and delivery. Well, I didn't so we headed up to the hospital in quite a panic as you can probably imagine. When we got there, the nurses hooked us up to the machines and were able to find the heartbeat, but it was pretty high. Dr Froerer told us that just to be safe in case an infection had gotten to the uterus, that he was going to deliver the baby. So Dan got his first taste of a panicked Father, racing home to grab the hospital bag and camera and figure out what to do with Mason. (Thanks Jen Bagley!) Then rushed back to the hospital in time for the delivery. But for as much excitement that we experienced in the morning, the delivery of Mackenzie couldn't have gone any smoother.

We just feel so blessed to have her with us. We love her so much. Dan can't put her down. Mason didn't want her to sleep in the hospital anymore, he wanted her to sleep at home. And I just love to let her sleep so peacefully on my chest. We can't wait for everyone else to be able to meet her!

All Mason wanted to do was hold her! He's going to be such a caring big brother.

  1. Wow I forgot how tiny new babies are! I'm glad everything went well. I've been really suprised at how much worrying pregnancy is. I'm sure it feels great to be able to see her and know she is ok. Mason is too cute with her!

    1. I know, we forgot how tiny they are too! Even if they are 9-10 pounders! I have no idea what you mean by gorgeous...respectable maybe, but definitely not gorgeous! I'd slap people silly if they told me my face looked puffier! I imagine that you are glowing with fabulousness! Hulu have to take some belly shots! I want to see that baby grow!

  6. Thank you Kim! Well, I guess when you don't have to go into labor it's easy to look somewhat decent. I'm just happy that I had taken a shower the night before and powdered my nose before I dropped Mason off at school. We miss you guys too! Would love to see you!
